In this edition of Humber Headlines, I will focus on the tremendous community outreach our students have committed to, our spring Open House, new full-time programming, and the results of the annual Humber Challenge Cup.

Local social awareness has been the focus of many of our students this year as part of class projects and or campus initiatives. I am amazed of their accomplishments and the money collected for each charity. Just some of the charities which students committed to include; Family Transition Place, Orangeville Food Bank, Charity Water.org, Choices Youth Shelter, as well as Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

Like any parent, I am thrilled to watch as our students mature, as does their willingness to make change happen in our world.

The Humber Orangeville Campus annual Spring Open House was held on Saturday, April 24th from 10am to 2pm at the Alder Street Recreation Complex.

The Spring Open House provided the opportunity for students who have received approvals for full-time enrolment to check out the campus and campus services, speak with faculty and students. Tours were conducted at both the Alder Street Campus and the Home Renovation Building Lab located on Riddell and Town line locations.

This fall the Interior Decorating program will be offered as part of the full-time program menu at the Humber Orangeville Campus.

This 3-semester accelerated program will focus on design development, theory and presentation integrated with drafting, CADD and hand drawing classes.

The program will be delivered at both the Alder Street Campus and the new Home Renovation Building Lab. Students will find this as the perfect setting to create a variety of decorating scenarios and watch them actually come together within each house built in the lab. This new program will bring the total to six full-time programs offered through the Orangeville Campus.

As the winter 2010 semester comes to a conclusion, I would like to wish our soon-to-be graduating students much success in their careers. Students from Business Administration, Business Management, Early Childhood Education, and Police Foundation programs will be graduating in June. We at Humber Orange-ville are so proud of them!!

And finally, I would like to congratulate the County of Dufferin Staff Stars for winning the 4th annual Humber Challenge Cup charity Hockey game. Held on Friday, April 9th, the County of Dufferin Staff Stars took to the ice against the Humber College Staff Stars. In a hard fought and entertaining match the County won the game 5 – 2. $500.00 in monetary and over 200 Lbs in food donations were collected on behalf of the Orangeville Food Bank.

The Humber Staff Stars look forward to a rematch next year!!
